The Word
The Ministry of the Word takes place both in worship services and in smaller age-specific communities. The preaching of the Word of God is central, and will be Christ-filled (2 Corinthians 1:20) and life-giving (Psalm 19:7-8). The hearing of the Word will be with eagerness and humility (Psalm 119:131; James 1:21). But the Bible will be taught in the power of the Holy Spirit at every level of our church. We stand on the Word of God alone as the basis of our doctrine and life, so opportunities to study the Word abound at First Presbyterian.
Our Desire:
to study the Bible with the understanding given by the Holy Spirit.
to cultivate a church-wide hunger for God’s Word.
to rear our children in the knowledge and ways of God.
to value God’s truth more than human popularity.
to think biblically in the face of all of life’s situations.
Each quarter, age-related and interest-related classes are offered on Sunday mornings, 9:45 - 10:45 a.m., through the Adult Educational Communities. Each community has its own personality, lesson series and activities that make it unique. Small group Bible studies meet together weekly to study the Word of God in order to know Him and to learn what the Bible says about how to live as a follower of Jesus.
